5 Quick Video Lesson Tricks for Learner Engagement

I have created over 100 instructional video lessons for my courses over the years and have made a lot of mistakes and edits along the way. Here are five learning science-supported tips for best practice:

  1. Limit the time length to 5- 10 minutes and stay focused on the learning objective

  2. Use only necessary audio and visuals that explain your concept. Avoid being redundant. Learners can always watch the video a second time.

  3. Highlight words and areas on the screen as you talk to direct learners attention and emphasize important concepts

  4. Use a conversational, enthusiastic tone of voice to engage learners

  5. Add embedded guiding questions into the video to engage learners and check for understanding
