AI Tools for Educators
Here are my top three AI tools that are helping me manage my time and boost my creativity as a classroom and virtual teacher and educator mentor. As you can already tell, I’m choosing a growth and expansion mindset during these rapidly changing and continuously evolving times in tech. Instead of fearing AI, I’m choosing to get curious, find out the facts, and just play around with some new tools. AI is a tool to help me save time, get started on projects sooner, and serve my learners more efficiently. Let me tell you a little more about Chat GPT 3.5, Canva, and Diffit, the three AI tools I use weekly.
Chat GPT 3.5
Chat GPT, or Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, 3.5 is free, uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to create answers to questions and other content. Educators can use it to plan a lesson, draft a parent email, or revise content to be more student friendly. This goes without saying that mistakes and biases will be present in the output and users will need to edit. I think that Chat GPT makes for an excellent thought partner, especially because I spend all my day with learners.
Canva
Canva is a tool for creating signs, infographics, worksheets, presentations and more. It also has an AI image generator that you can use to create custom designed documents. If you are looking for an image that doesn’t exist yet, this is a great tool! You type in the words for the image that you’re looking for and the image appears.
Diffit
Type what you are looking for and choose the grade level, and Diffit will help get you started. For example, I wanted to revamp my culinary arts garnishing lesson for next week and couldn’t come up with a creative. I usually revise curriculum over the summer and didn’t want to make my students endure my old lesson. I entered ‘culinary arts garnishing lesson’ and chose 11th grade. In just a few minutes, it created a reading passage with an image, key vocabulary words, multiple choice and short answer assessment questions, and student activities.
