Filled Cupcakes

As a volunteer for the For Goodness Cakes Sprinkle Squad, I create customized cakes, cupcakes and cookies. The organization connects bakers to unique birthday cupcake or cake requests of children in foster care or adults graduating from a program in need of some hand-crafted sweetness. One recent order called for chocolate filled cupcakes. If you haven’t made filled cupcakes before, this might be a new favorite after you see how easy it is!

Filled Cupcakes

12 cupcakes

2 cups frosting

Tools You’ll Need

  • Piping bag

  • Tips - .25 to .5 inch diameter round

  • Paring knife

Instructions

  1. Remove a 1/2 inch core of each cupcake, reserving the tops. To do this, insert the tip of the paring knife vertically, about 1/4 inch down into the center of a cupcake and cut a dime-sized hole.

  2. Gently cut the center portions from the cupcake tops.

  3. Fit a piping bag with a .25 or .5 inch diameter round tip. Fill with about 1 cup of frosting.

  4. Squeeze about a teaspoon of frosting into the core of each cupcake. Replace with top.

5. Frost the top and decorate.
